Dowling College Sports Management Majors Raise Money For the Sandra Foundation
On Wednesday, April 16th, 2008, a Dowling College Sports Management class were challenged to raise $500 for a charitable organization. The students chose the Sandra Blake Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Dr. Marilyn Mather, Associate Professor of Sports Management and Physical Education assigned a class of sports management majors to create an athletic event that would raise $500 for a charity of the students choice.
The students decided to create a basketball fundraiser, where the funds raised would be donated to the Sandra Blake Memorial Scholarship Foundation. The project was led by Quran Marshall, Camisha McKenzie, and Marquis Johnson. Professor Mathers stated "This event is special. Sandra would have been very proud."
"The 3-on-3 basketball fundraiser was a great success and we're so honored to have been selected as the charitable organization by these great students" says Kelvin King, the organization's founder.
The students received sponsorship from the NHL Hockey Team, the New York Islanders as well as the Student Government Association of Dowling College. After all expenses, the students raised $830.
Thanks to all the Dowling students that raised funds for the Sandra Blake Memorial Scholarship Foundation!
